"Make Polluters Pay" Week of Action

For decades, fossil fuel companies have knowingly fueled the climate crisis — all while raking in billions in profits and blocking meaningful action. Now, our communities are paying the price through deadly heatwaves, floods, fires, and rising seas.

This can’t continue!

Next week, join Climate First! and many others around the U.S. who are coming together for the "Make Polluters Pay" Week of Action — to demand justice, accountability, and climate reparations from the corporations most responsible for the climate crisis.

👉 The Make Polluters Pay campaign, facilitated by Fossil Free Media, can provide organizing and communications support for the week of action. Apply for the support here.

👉 Find an event near you. Or host your own action; this toolkit will be helpful. Some events will be virtual or hybrid.

👉 If you live in the DMV, consider joining Climate First! and others who will attend an action at the American Petroleum Institute in downtown Washington, DC on Thursday, January 29, 2026. Note that no civil disobedience is planned. Also, the event will be hybrid.

Your voice, your presence, and your action can help shift the cost of climate destruction off of communities — and onto the polluters who caused it.

Let’s turn outrage into action. Together, we can build a future where people come before profits — and where polluters are finally held accountable.

Climate First!'s 13th Annual Meeting

Climate First! will hold its 13th Annual Meeting (AM) virtually on Sunday, March 1, 2026, beginning at 12:30 pm EST. We hope that you can attend the AM as we will look at the nonprofit's past year, and how the organization will move forward in the new year.

Given that the Trump administration is moving closer and closer to an authoritarian government that often ignores the U.S. Constitution, we believe that we must continue to fight that alarming trend, as well as engage in traditional campaign work to protect the climate. See "details", and/or RSVP below.

Since President Trump will not permit any climate legislation or regulation to become law, Climate First! will try in the new year to help get a “polluters pay” bill passed at the state level. New York State and Vermont have already passed this critical legislation, which makes fossil fuel companies pay for damages resulting from climate-amplified natural disasters. And efforts are underway in other states, including Maryland, to pass similar bills.

Note: we will share more information about the AM's agenda, including its keynote speaker, in the near future.
