President Biden: You Stopped KXL Pipeline for the climate. So #StopMVP!

Join Climate First! and many others this coming Thursday, as we demand that President Biden use his executive power to kill the climate-wrecking Mountain Valley Pipeline. For details and/or how to RSVP, go to bottom.

In backing the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) to get a deal on the debt ceiling, the Biden administration was likely thinking, in part, that it would win in the long-run by saving the Inflation Reduction Act--the largest U.S. climate bill ever signed into law--and other popular programs from massive budget cuts that many Republicans wanted to enact. However, the administration needs to remember that the International Energy Agency (IEA) said back in May 2021 that if the world was going to stay under 1.5 degrees C., a threshold mandated in the Paris Climate Accord in 2015, there could be no investment in new fossil fuel projects starting immediately. Needless to say, the IEA's strong recommendation has been violated numerous times over the past two years, and the MVP could well end up being another example of that. We must stop the MVP and other new fossil fuel projects to save the climate.

More locally, Appalachia has been deemed a sacrifice zone for decades by fossil fuel companies due to the industry's mountaintop removal (coal) mining and other destructive ways of extracting and/or transporting energy resources. We can not let the MVP add to this legacy, and thus we must stop the pipeline to secure a better, more just future for Appalachia.

This is President Biden’s pipeline, and he can stop MVP just like he stopped the Keystone XL pipeline. The President can solidify his climate legacy by stopping all new fossil fuel projects beginning today.

Adopt A Road Program Cleanup--E. Wayne Ave

Have you ever noticed the large amount of litter on our busiest roadways? Other than being an eye sore, does it matter if our streets are clean from plastic bottles and caps, cigarette butts, aluminum cans, and other trash?

Well, think about it. If there is a heavy rain in a town or city, the water (and the litter it carries) flows down to the nearest storm drain, and then often spills into a nearby stream. Eventually, the stream probably runs into a larger body of water, and later very possibly flows into our Chesapeake Bay. Thus, if we keep our roadways clean from trash, our state's water bodies will be healthier.

Join us on Saturday morning, June 17, 2023 for our latest cleanup of a section of E. Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland. All needed equipment (gloves, large plastic bags, "pic sticks", & other) will be provided as we make E. Wayne Ave, from Garland Ave to Sligo Creek Parkway, look its best.
