Let's Deliver Musk/DOGE Accountability Petitions to U.S. Congress
Clearly, President Trump and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was a disaster. They promised that DOGE would save U.S. taxpayers trillions of dollars. Instead, it cost all Americans money, destroyed vital agencies, left tens of thousands of dedicated public servants jobless, exposed the personal data of nearly every American, and resulted in the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of people overseas.

Join Climate First! and others around the country starting late next week when we participate in the DOGE Accountability Campaign's "Week of Action", by dropping off petitions to those who represent us in Congress, in order to ask them to support a thorough investigation of DOGE and Musk. See "Details" below.
Without accountability, the behavior of corrupt politicians and donors will continue to erode our democracy. That’s why the DOGE Accountability Campaign is calling on members of Congress to hold Musk and DOGE accountable, as well as to make public commitments to hold hearings and investigations into DOGE and Elon Musk’s role in potentially illegal, and even unconstitutional activities.
More specific to the climate issue, once DOGE had "reformed" the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's staffing, budget, and scientific resources, some wondered if NOAA's work (via the National Weather Service's extreme weather prediction) would be negatively affected. And then on July 4, 2025, catastrophic flooding in Texas killed over 140 people. While some reporting seemed to show that staffing at the NWS was adequate vis-a-vis the Texas tragedy, it's difficult to say that DOGE's extreme way of downsizing government agencies, such as NOAA and EPA, was a proper way to reform the federal government.
