Help Stop Big Banks From Financing Climate-Wrecking Pipelines

This coming Friday, Dec 11th, activists and groups with the Stop The Money Pipeline (STMP) coalition are participating in a COVID-safe "National Day of Action" to put the funders of the climate-polluting Keystone XL and Line 3 pipelines on notice. Anyone can join the Day of Action by delivering two letters to your local branch of various U.S. banks, or other financial institutions. Here's how you can SAFELY participate in this event in 4 easy steps:

1. Print off this letter signed by forty-one Indigenous women leaders and endorsed by 158 organizations (including Climate First!), opposing the climate-wrecking pipelines.

2. Print off the STMP cover letter appropriate to the financial institution of your choosing in your home town; also review the "letter delivery" directions at the link.

3. Enlist a friend to help you safely deliver these two letters to the financial institution. While practicing pandemic safety guidelines, arrive at the office when it's open. Arrange to have your friend take an eye-catching photo/video of you during the action. Then enter the office, and ask to speak to the manager. After you hand the letters to the manager with a very short explanation, quickly leave the office. Important: for those of you who are customers of the financial institution, be sure to make that known when asking for and speaking with the manager.

4. Finally, send your photo/video to the STMP coalition, using [email protected]. Coalition folks will use them to create an action wrap-up video which will be sent to the CEOs, Board members, and executives of the companies funding the climate-wrecking pipelines. You are now DONE with your action!

So, if you are interested in taking part in the "National Day of Action" this coming Friday, December 11th, please fill out this form and a STMP organizer will be in touch ASAP.

In addition, please read and accept the following COVID-Safe action Agreements.

NOTE: All folks in the Washington, D.C. area who are planning on delivering letters to a Chase Bank branch(es): please let Climate First! know which branches you are targeting. We want letter deliveries to be spread-out among as many Chase branches as possible.
