As part of the youth-initiated Global Climate Strike on Friday, March 19, 2021, Climate First! will be running numerous back-to-back actions in Silver Spring, MD and Washington, D.C. against U.S. banks that are financing the proposed Line 3 pipeline. The Line 3 pipeline, if built by the energy company, Enbridge, would transport an estimated 760,000 barrels of carbon-intensive tar sands oil every day from Alberta, Canada to the shores of Lake Superior in Wisconsin.

In addition to Line 3's devastating impact over time on the world's climate, the pipeline would destroy the sacred wild rice beds that the local Anishinaabe people depend-on for their food, culture, and way of life. Finally, the pipeline would endanger more than 800 waterways.

On March 19th, Climate First! will run consecutive peaceful actions where we'll deliver a "demand" letter and petition that ask each bank to end its financial relationship with Enbridge. We'll start at a Chase Bank branch in downtown Silver Spring, MD. Then we will make our way via the metro, or other means, to various banks, including another Chase branch, in Washington, D.C.. All branches in D.C. will be within a fairly easy walk of each other and the Metro Center Station. See details below. 

DETAILS 
What: Peaceful consecutive actions against Chase Bank and other banks funding the Line 3 pipeline.
When: Friday, March 19, 2021, 10 am, EDT. Last action will end around 3 pm. 
Where: Meet at Chase Bank, 8435 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD; this location is a short walk from the Silver Spring Metro Station, Red line. Short on time? Meet us at 2nd location in Wash., D.C. at noon: Metro Center entrance/exit at 13th & G Streets, NW. If rain/cool temps, there's shelter over the escalator going down to the metro station.
