It's quite possible that just your signature and that of many others on thousands of postcards could lead to a big-time climate polluter cutting its massive investments in fossil fuels expansion. How? Read on....
Climate First! is part of a nationwide campaign, "Costco: Clean Up Your Credit Card." This campaign essentially involves getting lots of people across the country--Costco's customers and non-customers--to contact top executives at Costco, and ask them to put pressure on Citibank (the retailer's credit card provider) to start slashing its financing of new climate-wrecking fossil fuels projects. For "Details", see below.
Costco, the third largest retailer in the country, is beloved by many of its members--more than 30% of Americans are Costco shoppers. However, the hugely popular retailer has a highly profitable credit card relationship with Citi, the leading funder--of all the banks in the world--of new fossil fuel projects. With climate-applified heatwaves, wildfires, storms, and other natural disasters increasing all over the U.S. and beyond, investing massively in coal, oil and gas expansion is exactly the worse thing to be doing at this time.
We believe that Costco can leverage its extremely profitable Citi credit card to get the major bank to immediately end its financing of fossil fuel expansion––or else Costco will switch to a cleaner credit card provider. And since Costco has a history of listening to its paying members and caring about its public reputation, this postcard action could be successful.
