Is the worsening climate crisis beginning to make you feel hopeless for your and your family's future? Well, then join with the Stop the Money Pipeline coalition, Third Act, New York Communities for Change and other organizations as their "Summer of Heat" campaign begins on Monday, June 10, 2024 in New York City. The campaign is an effort to build a major disruptive nonviolent movement to tell the Wall Street financiers to end their massive funding of climate-wrecking fossil fuels. See "details" below.      

Throughout history, sustained, disruptive nonviolent campaigns have delivered justice around the world, including movements involving U.S. civil rights, apartheid policies in South Africa, and Indian independence. Recently in October 2023, the Dutch government began the process of phasing out fossil fuel subsidies after a month-long blockade of a major motorway. With around 14 percent of Americans currently willing to engage in nonviolent civil disobedience to fight the climate crisis, the opportunity to build a mass climate movement in our country is growing.

With the opening of the Summer of Heat in New York City next week, Climate First! will attend four of the five actions scheduled during the week (M-F) at Citi's headquarters. And then campaign's plan for the rest of the summer is to hold multiple disruptive nonviolent direct actions in NYC against all of Wall Street's climate-polluters, including major banks, insurance companies, and investors.

DETAILS:
What: During the first week (June 10-14) of the Summer of Heat campaign, there will be a daily action (at different times) at the headquarters of Citibank, the world's largest financier of coal, oil, and gas expansion. Most of the actions will involve nonviolent civil disobedience. 
When: The Summer of Heat campaign begins on Monday, June 10, 2024 with an action at Citi beginning at 8:30 am for 2.5 hours. 
Where: Citi’s headquarters, 388 Greenwich Street, Manhattan, NY. Participants should meet at Duane Park, 166 Duane Street, New York, NY.
