In order to protect the climate, our economy, and the health (including lives) of many in the U.S., the time has come for the end of fossil fuels in the not-too-distant future. However, Wall Street is continuing to pour billions of dollars into coal, oil and gas which drives both the climate crisis and environmental racism. To end this massive funding of fossil fuels, we need a large movement of people willing to take nonviolent direct action. 

That’s why Climate First! has joined the Summer of Heat on Wall Street, a sustained campaign in New York City with disruptive direct actions planned for the whole summer. The actions will demand that banks, investors and insurance companies stop bankrolling the fossil fuel industry.

On the call, we will hear from campaign leaders about the direct actions they have organized every week beginning on June 10th in New York City, which will target the financial institutions funding the fossil fuel industry. While the Summer of Heat is centered in New York City, people around the country, who care about the health of the unravelling climate, can get involved in the campaign. And by joining the effort to save the climate, your actions could well inspire a wave of protest across the country, calling out the financiers of the climate crisis. 

Last month, organizers announced their plans for the Summer of Heat campaign with two major actions at Citibank, shutting down their global headquarters in NYC two days in a row. 53 people, who engaged in nonviolent civil disobedience, were arrested. Climate First! attended both actions, and we found them to be quite well-organized and inspiring. And these two events were just the beginning--starting next month there will be similar climate actions every week of the summer.
