From July 12, to Sunday, July 18, Climate First! and many others, as part of the Stop the Money Pipeline Coalition, will be running artful actions at banks all around the country that are funding the Line 3 pipeline project in the Midwest. Join Climate First! this Friday, July 16, as we visit five nearby banks financing the climate-wrecking Line 3 pipeline during our "bank walk" in downtown Silver Spring, MD. This week of bank actions will be critical to defeating Line 3 because there currently are $4.6 billion in loans to Enbridge Inc., the company behind the toxic pipeline, that are due to expire on the 22nd and 23rd of July. At that time, banks can legally walk away from the Line 3 loans, effectively defunding the construction of the dirty project. We must convince the large banks to stop funding the high carbon fuel-carrying Line 3 pipeline, if the world is to have any chance of staying under 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming which nations aspired to in Paris, in 2015.

 This week of artful actions is part of the Defund Line 3 campaign, using the power of art to 1) support those who are putting their bodies on the front line in N. Minnesota to stop Line 3, and 2) protect our water, climate, treaties, and communities. In all, nearly 500 people have now been arrested for taking bold direct action to stop the construction of Line 3.

WHAT: We'll visit 5 banks, all funding the Line 3 pipeline, during the event. Please RSVP below.
WHEN: 11 am to 1 pm, Fri., July 16, 2021. Come for one or all five banks, whatever you have time for!
WHERE: We'll meet in Ellsworth Place (the mall) near the TD Bank entrance; bank address: 8661 Colesville Rd (intersection of Colesville & Fenton) in downtown Silver Spring, MD.
MISC: Climate First! is not planning civil disobedience during this event, and thus we expect no arrests. Also, we expect that all participants will abide by CDC pandemic guidelines. Bring a creative sign or two. For more info regarding this nationwide week of actions vs. Line 3, go here.
